Do it right the first time - get your road tax refund after vehicle transfer to new state.

Back ground : In my previous post I have shared my detailed experience of transferring my vehicle from Bangalore to Pune and getting is registered in Pune and further getting my road tax refund from Bangalore RTO, this is a super simplified version of the same post. 


Step1: Collect below documents from home state before leaving to the new state. Take help from RTO Agent 



1. FORM 28 (Four copies of Form 28 with Chasis number pencil print) : This form needs to be filled in full and signed by the local RTO office and the bank (if taken CAR loan).
2. Current PUC (Pollution under Control) certificate 
3. Insurance Copy
4. Vehicle Road Tax Copy
5. Vehicle RC Copy
6. Owner ID ( PAN and DL copy)

Step 2:  Register your new vehicle in the new state, along with the documents in step1, one will need to obtain below documents from new state.  approach a RTO agent for the below

b) Sales Tax NOC - FORM 2B (from the new state, original)
c) Residential proof of new state (copy of Registered rental agreement)
d) Road tax receipt of new state (copy)


Step 3: Once you receive the new registration number, apply for refund of life time road tax paid in the home state.

Draft an application and attach the necessary documents and send the application via registered post to Bangalore RTO

  1. Thanks for sharing this. I want to check when you shared the xerox copies of old RC/New RC/PUC/Insurance - do you need to get it endorsed or xerox copies are fine. Please kindly confirm on this point.
    Also for CRTI - if we do to the RTO will they give us? Or it should be sent from RTO to RTO directly. Pls help

    1. Yes Xerox copies which are notarised as true copy will do.

      For CRTI ideally the RTO should do it. But instead they ask us to get it. So in short you can send the CRTI directly to RTO. It's not a must that only RTO to RTO communication should happen.
